We Met Harriet Tubman

One thing that I have found living in West Virginia is that the people here love their history.  No, not general history or World history.  They love their history, which means the Civil War. Honestly, I have never met so many average, every day people who are avid Civil War buffs.  That’s why it was no surprise to me, that when I to took Morgan to see a historical interpretation of Harriet Tubman, the place was PACKED (and there were very few kids).

We watched the interpretation performed by Ilene Evans.  The program we saw was General Moses: Stories from the Life of Harriet Tubman

This program is a dramatic interpretation of the life and achievements of Harriet Tubman, also known as General Moses, and her role in the liberation of slaves through the Underground Railroad. Spirituals and songs of inspiration fill the presentation and show the passion of the kind of leader who "…never run her train off the track and never lost a passenger."  -- Ilene Evans’ website

You can listen to sample clips at her website.  The excerpt from the General Moses presentation is the second track 3 and fourth on the list.  It’s a wonderful example of the richness of her presentation.  The sample includes not only her storytelling style, but also demonstrates her lovely singing voice and the inspirational tone of the entire performance.

If you ever get the chance to see her, and she’s performed all over including the Middle East, you MUST GO.  She was amazing.   If she doesn’t make it to your area, she sells the audio version of General Moses in her website’s shop

**This is my honest review that no one asked me to write. I attended a free to the public event and decided to share my thoughts with you. No compensation was received.**

  1. Thank you for this article. And yes I do not know why we West Virginians love civil war history, family history, and all forms of history but we do.
